School Libraries have a vital role in helping children and young people develop their skills as readers and learners. Higher standards of literacy are fostered through having a good school library which actively promotes a love of reading and offers an inspiring place to discover and research. Well-resourced and well used book collections have a strong impact on pupils' motivation to read both for pleasure and to resource the curriculum.
Portsmouth City Council’s School Library Service has a specialist team dedicated to meeting the needs of pupils in all key stages. The School Library Service (SLS) is offered to schools, academies and independent schools from a well-appointed library centre in Paulsgrove.
